More than a week after Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica, communities across the island are still struggling to recover. Thousands remain without stable electricity, several roads in rural parishes are blocked by fallen trees and land slippage, and many families are trying to rebuild with limited resources.
Government agencies continue to distribute relief supplies, but residents in St. Mary, Portland, and St. Thomas say support is slow and the damage is deeper than expected. Fishermen, small farmers, market vendors, and low-income households represent the majority of those affected.
While cleanup work has started islandwide, many Jamaicans fear the long-term economic impact, especially with Christmas approaching and incomes already stretched thin.
